Honda e:N Electric Vehicle Prototype Lineup Was Revealed Just in Time for 🌎️ Day

Honda just revealed 3 new electric vehicles (EVs) at Auto Shanghai in China as part of its plan to have 100% of its new car sales be EVs in the country by 2035. These are the first of 10 new EVs Honda plans to sell in China by 2027. Although these EVs are designed for the Chinese market, they could also make their way to the U.S. eventually. Honda aims to be fully carbon neutral by 2050, and creating an all-electric lineup is a step towards achieving that goal.

The e:NP2 and e:NS2 prototypes will be available in China in 2024. Interior details for these vehicles haven't been revealed yet, but it's expected that they will include Honda's CONNECT 4.0 software suite and futuristic designs.

The e:NP2 looks pretty unique, but the e:NS2 gives off some seriously strong Civic Vibes.

HPD Hondas Earns TCA Victory 🏆

HPD Hondas started the Touring Car America season strong this weekend at Sonoma Raceway, with a TCX class victory for the new Honda Civic Type R TCX, and podium finishes in TC and TCA for the HPD Honda Civic Type R and HPD Honda Civic Si FE1.

So what does this mean for the average Honda owner? Well, it means that Honda’s proclivity for building reliable driver-focused vehicles translates well into the racing world.

Honda Civic Type R vs. Acura Integra Type S

Honda enthusiasts cheered when Acura unveiled the return of the Civic’s cousin, the Integra, last year. For this model year, Acura decided to turn the dial to 11 with their announcement of the Integra Type S set to be available in June this year. No doubt, many will be comparing the Honda Civic Type R and the Acura Integra Type S for quite some time.

16 years after the Acura (Integra) RSX ended production, the Acura Integra nameplate was resurrected with the release of the 2023 Acura Integra in 2022.

The 2024 Acura Integra Type S revives the performance-oriented spirit of the Integra. It will also be the most powerful Integra ever with a 320hp turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. Not to mention some modern tech with a 9” touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a HUD, and a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D® audio system.

Acura Integra Origins

Orignally launched as the Honda Integra in Japan, the Acura Integra was one of two launch models for Acura in the U.S. market alongside the Acura Legend in 1986.

Throughout its 4 generations, the Integra developed a reputation for its nimble handling, high-revving engines, and performance-focused variants like the Type R. The Integra became an icon in the sport compact car segment and gained a dedicated fanbase. Its tuner-friendly nature and aftermarket support contributed to its popularity, making it a favorite among car enthusiasts and in motorsport.

The Integra's influence persisted beyond its initial production run, with a strong following among car enthusiasts who appreciate its performance capabilities and timeless design.

The Integra was so popular in fact that in 2004, the 1999 Integra was reported as the most stolen car in the U.S., with the 1998 model being the 3rd most stolen.

In 2002, the 4th Gen Integra was renamed the Acura RSX in North America. It was discontinued after the 4th generation, with the RSX ending production in 2006.

Type R vs. Type S

Type R and Type S are both performance-oriented variants of their respective base models, with Type R typically being the more track-focused and aggressive of the two.

The Type R and Type S badging has been applied to various models within Honda and Acura's lineup over the years.

  • Type R:

    • Honda Civic Type R

    • Honda/Acura Integra Type R

    • Honda Accord Type R

    • Honda NSX Type R

  • Type S:

    • Acura RSX Type-S

    • Acura CL Type-S

    • Acura RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD

    • Acura ILX A-Spec

The 3rd Gen Integra saw the introduction of the Type R variant in 1995, which quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional handling, high-revving VTEC engine, and lightweight construction. The DC2 Integra Type R was powered by a 1.8L B18C engine producing 195 horsepower in the Japanese market and 200 horsepower in the U.S.

The 4th Gen Integra (2002-2006 Acura RSX) was available in two trim levels: the base model and the performance-oriented Type-S. The RSX Type-S featured a 2.0L K20A2 engine producing 200 horsepower and was mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Type-S provided a sporty driving experience with slightly less aggressive tuning than the Integra Type R.

2024 Acura Integra Type S

The Type S features a 2.0L 4cyl. turbocharged engine similar to the Civic Type R, but slightly edges out the Civic with 5 more horsepower coming in at 320hp and the same 310 lb.-ft of torque.

The Type S also sports an aggressive wide-body look that enthusiasts love. The fenders of the Type S are 2.8 inches wider than the regular Integra.

Acura's Integra Type S is a more premium, luxury-leaning ride than the Civic Type R. It's packed with comforts like heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with colored stitching, and a dark anodized shift knob with "Type S" engraving. The interior has upgraded materials and a unique layout. Both cars have a digital gauge cluster and touchscreen, but the Acura boasts a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D premium sound system.
