Let’s say a heartfelt farewell to the 10th Gen stapler taillights.

Don’t miss out, we still have a few 2022’s left if you wanna join the 10th gen stapler club.

Honda did pretty well at the 2023 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season opener at Daytona International Speedway. Their LA Honda World #73 Honda Civic Type R TCR finished in second place and their #37 Civic took the pole position. Unfortunately, the other Honda teams didn't have much luck due to issues with power steering and drivetrain, as well as unavoidable contact with another car.

“It was great coming back to this locale, where I’ve had success before, and find success again aboard this Civic. My co-driver Mike LaMarra and I, it’s our first race together and we were able to get it done! My job as the starting driver is just to keep the car healthy and keep us close, and I was able to do that. Four hours [racing] is a long time, so there’s a lot of opportunities for things to go awry, but I avoided all that carnage and gave Mike a healthy car that he was able to take to second place.”

“It’s a great way to start the season! We’re super excited, obviously. We had a mistake early, which cost us a drive-through penalty but luckily it was early and we were able to make it up. I can’t say enough about our crew, my gosh, these guys worked so hard over the last week to give us a great Honda Civic Type R TCR. It was really fantastic after all the work we’ve done. It was a great battle out there. I was a little disappointed to not bring home the win, but I’m happy to be here in second. It’s a great way to start the season and hopefully we’ll see a few more of these podiums.”

Honda Performance Development (HPD), the racing arm of American Honda Motor Co., provides trackside support to Honda teams racing in the TCR series all over the world. HPD offers three Civic models for touring car competitions, with options ranging from affordable and reliable to championship-winning. Honda has developed three different TCR race cars, each designed for different levels of competition: the Civic Si TCA, the Civic Type R TC, and the Civic Type R TCR.

What is a TCR race car?

TCR (Touring Car Racing) is a class of racing that emphasizes close competition, affordability, and parity between different makes and models.

What makes TCR race cars interesting is that they are based on production cars that you can buy from a dealership. Manufacturers can showcase their latest high-performance models in a racing environment, while also making the racing accessible to more teams and drivers by keeping costs down. TCR cars are built to strict regulations that ensure all cars are equal in terms of power, weight, and performance, which creates exciting and unpredictable racing where every driver has a chance to win.

In short, TCR race cars provide an exciting and accessible form of motorsport that combines the performance and technology of production cars with the excitement of wheel-to-wheel racing.

And the LA Honda World team that competed in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge at Daytona is one of the most successful Honda TCR teams in North America, having won multiple championships in recent years.

The 4 fastest time slots on day 4 of Super GT pre-season testing all went to Honda, beating out Nissan and Toyota. Honda led all 4 tracks days and Honda NSX-GT is looking like the car to beat.

The rest of the pre-season testing will consist of tire test and wet running test like the tweet below. Which we must admit is still pretty entertaining to watch highlights of.

What is Super GT?

The Super GT is a top-level sports car racing series in Japan. The series features two classes of race cars:

  • GT500 - high-performance, purpose-built racing machines

  • GT300 - modified production cars.

What makes Super GT unique? A commitment to exciting racing.

I am burdened with glorious purpose

#MakeRacingExcitingAgain

Super GT focuses on car performance parity almost to a fault. They even go as far as to introduce weight handicaps and fuel flow restrictors to balance car performance. Mandatory pit windows were also added to force racers to compete on skill rather than strategy.

The goal is to create exciting racing with multiple lead changes and battles for position throughout races.

In short, Super GT racing is fun to watch.
